My name is Emily, my husband’s name is Dylan, and we’ve been together nearly seven years.

I’ll dive right in and tell you about our struggles to start a family. I’ve been a type 1 diabetic (T1D) since I was two years old. Being T1D nearly my entire life has given me a world of corresponding health difficulties with infertility being one of them.

In September, against all odds and after 18 months of trying, I found out I was pregnant. My husband and I were overwhelmingly excited and couldn’t wait to meet our miracle. Sadly, three days after we got our positive pregnancy test, we had a miscarriage. The hurt was unbearable and we still find ourselves mourning our loss. After our pregnancy loss, we consulted a fertility specialist.

Many labs, imaging, and appointments later, I was told I had low egg count and my hormone levels were abnormal. Hearing that news was yet another blow to us, but not enough for us to give up hope. I’ve been through several rounds of letrozole, ovidrel, internal ultrasounds, sonohysterograms, you name it, and every month we were unsuccessful. Now, it’s recommended for us to pursue IVF treatments.

We always new this could be our reality, but it hasn’t made this journey easier. We live in a rural location with our fertility clinic a 12 hour drive away.
